The Brazil World Cup 2026 campaign is going to kick off with a match against Morocco this weekend, on Saturday, June 13. The Selecao have won the tournament a record six times and will fancy their chances of extending that record by lifting it again.

The Brazil World Cup 2026 campaign will be spearheaded by their manager Carlo Ancelotti, who is one of the most successful managers in club football ever. Ancelotti has won all the accolades in club football, and it is now up to him to repeat the act in the international arena.

Brazil World Cup 2026 Campaign Should Be Bolstered by a Great Attack, but Other Concerns Remain

The Brazil World Cup 2026 campaign is going to be strengthened by a great attack comprising the likes of Matheus Cunha, Vinicius Junior, Endrick, Raphinha, Neymar, Igor Thiago and Estevao.

Brazil have a plethora of options in their attack, which means that they will always have a chance of outscoring their opponents.

However, having a great attack solely does not guarantee success at any major tournament, unless it is of the caliber of the one Brazil had in 2002, with Ronaldo, Rivaldo and Ronaldinho in it. Still, the fearsome quartet at the 2006 World Cup – Ronaldo, Adriano, Kaka and Ronaldinho – failed to take their team past the quarterfinals.

At the 2018 World Cup, too, Brazil suffered because of a lack of defensive solidity. They conceded two goals in the first half of the quarterfinal against Belgium and could not manage to cover the deficit thereafter.

Ancelotti was a defensive midfielder for the fearsome AC Milan side of the late 1980s and early 1990s and will know the importance of a good defence all too well. The Brazil World Cup 2026 campaign consists of top centre-backs like Gabriel, Marquinhos and Eder Militao, each quite successful for their respective club teams.

In addition to that, the Selecao have a top goalkeeper like Alisson Becker. However, the full-backs are not of the highest quality, with both Danilo and Alex Sandro being past their prime.

Brazil also have an ageing Casemiro and Bruno Guimaraes as defensive options in midfield. Casemiro might not have the legs to bolster the defence at the age of 34, but his experience could come in handy.

Ancelotti Will Have a Tough Job in His Hand

The 67-year-old Italian, who has managed clubs like AC Milan, Real Madrid and Chelsea in the past, will have to make sure that his team’s defence is water-tight. He will also have to make sure that the defensive midfielders are there to give cover to the full-backs.

Ancelotti is a great tournament coach and has won the UEFA Champions League five times as a manager. Hence, the Italian knows the nitty-gritty of winning a football tournament better than probably anyone in world football today.

It now remains to be seen whether he can inspire the Brazil World Cup 2026 campaign to ultimate glory. Brazil will have fond memories of the World Cup in the United States, as they won it the last time it was held there, way back in 1994.
